A Pinch of turmeric can go a long way

TURMERIC
I thought I would share this tidbit with you all today.  Within the last few months, I have been reading up on the benefits of spices and herbs, which had a profound effect on my dishes. The great thing is that most spices do not only make your food taste good, but they also add great value to your health.   For instance, basil can be used as a tea for insomnia and has antibacterial healing properties.  I read it is also used to help menstrual cramps.  Mustard seeds, when consumed frequently can reduce migraines.  Nutmeg has been used to treat joint problems and other inflammation as well as asthma.  Turmeric, which seems to top the list of great spices has so many good qualities in it as well.  Some studies show that it can help treat alzheimer and cancer.
Hmmm, anything that helps with my memory is good to me

Don't believe me?  Well this website says it.

If you are interested in incorporating spices in your life, try this great book that says it all:
"Healing Herbs & Spices" by Lee Anne Dobbins

Although turmeric can be added to almost any dish, you can add a teaspoon or two in drinks as well.  Here is something I stole from the radio this morning - At your own risk, I will try it sometime this week and post on it.

Milk (suspect it can be soy, almond, coconut, cow's) - I will try it with coconut milk
2 teaspoon (maybe it was tablespoon)
Honey to kill the bitterness

Here is another one I  thought I would try this week as well.  Sounded like a great cleanser - I sort of guessed the measurements, so use your own judgment on this.

2 teaspoon Turmeric
Small piece of Ginger root
Grounded Cardamon
Spearmint leaves
1 teaspoon Agave
1/2 lemon
Pinch of Sea salt
Pinch of Cayenne
Dash of Cinnammon

Blend everything with 1 cup of water.  I hope you enjoy...

Please share your feedback on this site so others can benefit from it as well.

Yeshi triple chocolate cake

Somehow I inadvertently deleted the post on the birthday cake messing around with the format. But it's all good, here are the pics again. Sorry Ayesha your comment was erased too.

Mushroom in garlic and mango sauce

I made this dish with garlic on my mind. Since garlic is known to have so many good qualities and can definitely help shake off the winter blues, I always try to include it in most of my recipes.

First I made a garlic sauce
3 Clove of garlic
1 Cup of parsley
Sea salt and pepper
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 mango semi ripe skinned and chopped
Blend all ingredients and set aside

Mushroom dish
In a skillet, base the pan with olive oil
Add chopped onions and sauté for about 2 minutes. Throw in chopped mushrooms (my favorite) Add 1 teaspoon of vinegar and let it sauté until 5 mins or so. Next add the sauce mixture into skillet and cover for another 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from stove and enjoy with rice or couscous, whatever you desire.

This will blow your mind. I actually made this for my daughter and she loved it.

I will have lots of other recipe on mushrooms since this Is something I use as a substitute for meat. Will be making it for dinner today and will post a picture so you can enjoy it with me. Hahaha. Enjoy!!

Squash soup for winter days

I made this wonderful squash soup over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was very easy and delicious.

First boil the squash until its soft with sea salt. I also threw in half a can of
corn (optional. -.Just the way mom use to make it). Add a scotch bonnet pepper into the pot but be sure the pepper does not break. The point is to get the flavor of the pepper not necessarily the heat (other peppers can be substituted instead). After the squash is nice and soft, put into a blender and purée it. Oh REMOVE THE PEPPER FIRST. Add Two teaspoon of coconut oil, I have also used coconut milk as well. Throw in fresh parsley and blend that sucker. Serve and enjoy.
